A Quick History And Rundown Of Vaping

If you’ve long been curious about the fascinating world of vaping but weren’t sure about how to learn more about it, you’ve come to the right place. The popularity of these devices, with their dozens of form factors, flavours and functions, seems to constantly grow, and with this growth a community has also steadily formed. So, what’s all the fuss about then? Whether you’re a veteran vapor or someone new to the scene who might want to know more about the origins and functions of these devices, in this article we take a closer look at the interesting world of vaping.

History And Rundown Of Vaping

The origins of e-cigarettes and vaping

The first electric vaporiser was developed a lot longer ago than you might have expected. It was in 1927 that Joseph Robinson devised an electric vaporiser designed to be used in conjunction with a variety of medical compounds. Although this in itself was not intended to be used in conjunction with nicotine, it was only a few decades later in 1963 that Herbert A. Gilbert invented the “smokeless non-tobacco cigarette.” This new device wasn’t brought to market by Gilbert, however, and represented more of a proof of concept than anything else. It took a few more decades before Vaporisers as we know them to day were devised by Chinese inventor Hon Lik in 2003. Hon Lik patented the design and it didn’t take long before e-cigarettes and e-cigarette liquid started flying off the shelves. Due to China being a nation of smokers (it is believed that 60% of men smoke in China), vaping continued to gain in popularity over time and it didn’t take long before the world at large recognised the potential of e-cigarettes.

How vaping processes work

How do vapes create those magnificent clouds, then? Basically, e-cigarettes  contain a replaceable inhaler cartridge that houses a vegetable glycerine and/or polyethylene glycol and flavouring solution which makes up the “vape juice.” This liquid doesn’t necessarily have to contain nicotine, but it usually does, and the countless products available on the market today allow for users to select their nicotine strength preferences very easily. When users inhale, a sensor is triggered and a small heating device begins to heat up the liquid contained within the e-cigarette, turning it into a vapor. It is then breathed in and enjoyed by the user! Although basic devices won’t offer a user many options, more premium vapes offer many complex features and options to tailor the experience, such as the ability to increase or decrease the voltage. These processes still make it unclear as to whether carcinogens are formed (due to combustion not occurring), but vapes are still considered healthier than smoking cigarettes.

Is vaping for you?

Both cigarette smokers and those newly interested are continuing to find new things to enjoy about vaping, and we think they’ll find even more in the near future. Vaping remains a very popular alternative to smoking, but that shouldn’t suggest that it’s for everyone – there are still concerns around the health factors around vaping (despite these being fare less impactful than those related to cigarette smoking), but for everyone else who enjoys the community and the sheer variety, vaping is still very much
